A page with links to a number of places in Nevada including some of these:
A little hike in Lamoille Canyon in the Ruby Range, near Elko, Nevada.
Selected Sights from Whirlwind Valley
Also including some of these places very near home in Las Vegas, Nevada:
Red Rock: Directly West of Las Vegas (also see other links below)
Valley of Fire, Northeast of Las Vegas
A Fourth of July Thunderstorm at Home
In late 1994 I walked into the Sheep Range, north of Las Vegas, and ran out of daylight, but the trees, snow and sunset were nice.
A visit to the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas, the place where Las Vegas ("the meadows") was given its name by a Spanish explorer, reminded me that I am not always the best photo-and-word describer of a place. There is no way I can compete with their awesome website! (Click here to go there.)

A number of pages are dedicated to the Spring Range, just west of Las Vegas

But there are more specialized Spring Range views on this site, like this look at glaciation evidence on the Spring Range:
The Spring Range is a Winter playground for Las Vegas, it even has a ski resort:
A very short excursion into the Spring Range, Nevada, to play in snow.
A December 2007 walk in the Spring Range, near Las Vegas, with lots of snow.
Every once in a while, it snows in Las Vegas (three times in the 16 years I have lived here):
Las Vegas gets Powdered! Snow in Vegas, 30 December 2003!
Las Vegas gets Powdered Again! Snow in Vegas, 15 December 2008!
Flying into Las Vegas from the West usually gives good views of the Spring Range and the Red Rock Canyon area adjoining the western edge of Las Vegas:
A look at the Spring Range near Las Vegas from the air
Photos of the Spring Range and Red Rock from the air. A different flight path.
Speaking of Red Rock Canyon,
PLUS, another walk a week later on another side of the same red rock ridge in very nice weather.
A very short visit to the white rock part of Red Rock Canyon.
Having decided to do more local stuff, here is a fourth Red Rock walk, one that starts where the first walk ended and attempted but failed to reach to where the second walk ended. But, the destination is the journey.
It is now April of 2008 and much to our surprise and delight there were wild flowers in Red Rock! (Plus a walk to a waterfall).

A virtual tour of Yucca Mountain showing its geological and geographical setting.
The Shrine to Sekhmet in Cactus Springs, Nevada. Why this shrine means something about peace between religions to me, whether that is its theme or not.
