The Wasatch Range is the central backbone of Utah. It rises dramatically from what
is essentially a desert floor. Some of its larger peaks around Utah
County are Timpanogos
and Nebo. I did not climb either this trip, although my son has dragged me up Timp
once before. This time I did a little peak, called Squaw,
which overlooks Provo and
Orem, in Utah County. A few yards from the city is a parking lot for Rock Canyon and
its trail to Squaw Peak. Elevation rise is about
2,600 ft (850 m). It took me 5 solid hours
to take this wild walk.
