The Ruby Range runs north-south like most Basin and Range Province mountain ranges. Lamoille is a canyon that reaches into the heart of the range, just a few tens of miles southeast of Elko.
When the snow got too deep to allow our sedan to go any further up the canyon road, we pointed it down, parked it, and walked up a ways. Scenes along the way were such as these, looking uphill, looking downhill, and looking at the stream at the bottom:
