Snow Canyon, Utah

PART 4:  Views from the West Canyon Overlook

I found the West Canyon Overlook point itself about as interesting as the views of the canyon from that point.

To get an overview of the western part of the canyon, one either walks around the north side of this formation or one climbs its southeast side.

We will do both, and will start with the walk around to the north side:

So what was to seen from this vantage point?  The western lava flow coming into the canyon, as already shown on the previous page.

Now lets climb up the southeast side of this rock:

This is what we just climbed up, note the "desert varnish" on the stabler part of this ramp:

The views back were regarding as we ascended, as already shown, this is another look at the lava flow to the west:

And the grand view from the top?  This look onto the southern lava flow:

It seldom gets better than this.  Hope you enjoyed going on my short hike with me.  It was in the nineties when I returned to the hotel, later it was about 105 F.

I had barely enough water on this short hike, it was quite hot by the time I finished.  I could have used more.  Next time I'll try not to underestimate water needs.  The coolness of the early morning fooled me. It did not last long.  Lesson learned? (again?).
