PART 2a: A Walk to the Second of Three "Emerald Pools"
![]()
Starting out from Zion Lodge, I saw two peole coming down the trail rising up to get to the second of three pools that are part of the Emerald Pools trail circuit:

So I crossed the bridge and got on that trail, and saw the canyon floor falling away below me, with nice views to the south as well as the north:

At one point I could look across the canyon and see some of the buidlings of the Zion Lodge complex and one of the buses that transports people up and down the canyon:

But soon all attention was focused on getting to this elusive pool # 2 which lies below pool # 3 and above pool # 1. Soom it was coming closer:

This next photo, if you look carefully, has a cliff in it (to the right of the tree): the cliff above which lies pool # 2:

Pool # 2 was a bit small and disappointing to me, until I realized it exists in two parts and this is just the first part. Where it runs over the edge on the right is one of the small waterfalls seen from pool # 1 in the last page of this Emerald Pool series:

I liked the second part of pool # 2 better:

Here is where it goes over the cliff to feed pool # 1 below:

In turn, it is fed from the overflow from pool # 3 above:

No doubt during storms this is a raging torrent, judging by the collected flotsam above pool # 2:

Of course I could not resist the temptation of looking down from here to pool # 1:

But it is time to leave and climb up to pool # 3, above. The trail is a bit steep, but it is a cool day so I don't mind.
