Some Cactus Flowers
When you park at the Carlsbad Caverns National Park Visitors Center you are surrounded by desert. This Spring, in late May, several plants were in bloom not far from the parking lot.
Two of the most common cacti of the Chihuahuan desert will be featured on this page with several photos each.
The first is the tree cholla, shown in three photos below:
The tree cholla is very often found close to the ubiquitous prickly pear cactus, as in this photo:
The prickly pear cactus is featured in the next four photos:
There were other flowers in bloom, of course. One of them is one of my favorite plants of the Chihuahuan desert, the ocotillo:
