Carlsbad, NM

4.    Carlsbad's Pecos River in Late Fall  (Continued)

As we keep moving north along the east shore, several very nice sights pop into our view:

Hmm, I was leaning to keep from falling off my bike. Sorry!  Here, in the middle of town, there is another small dam.  Next we will see its overflow from the east, and then we will cheat (walk over the footbridge just behind the dam) and see it from the west:

That building in the background was, at one time, the powerhouse.  This dam was used to generate electricity, long ago.  The building is now a community recreation center, I believe.

Let's traipse on back to the east side now, and continue our upstream walk.  This is the pedestrian bridge that gave us quick access to the west of the Pecos (any of you old enough to remember "Judge Roy Bean, Law West of the Pecos"?):

We are now looking at the beach area, from the side of the Pecos River Village Conference Center:

This conference center is a very nice facility:

Looking downstream from here gives a very nice view:

Next we approach the railroad bridge, and cross it:

On the other side, the east shore, there are many playgrounds and I was careful to take pictures of trees, and not kids playing:

The beach area is really quite nicely done, complete with lifeguard stands:

Directly across from the beach is the Pecos River Village complex with its Conference Center:

We are almost back to the footbridge and middle dam again, so it is time to go home, after just a couple more river views:

Hope you enjoyed your Carlsbad tour.

Remember, this is Carlsbad New Mexico, not Carlsbad California.  Earlier this year an unfortunate Eastern European professional tennis player landed here, meaning to be in Carlsbad, California.  Her travel agent's mistake!  She made it to her California destination just in time to play.  But her travel  exhaustion left her doing not as well as she had expected herself to do.  Did she come and see the river?  No she was jet-lagged and slept in our tiny airport until she could catch the next plane out.
