McKittrick Canyon

An Exploration of Fall Colors in Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Texas

Part One (B): To the Pratt Cabin

Slow progress because of getting lost in color

We come to yet another creek crossing, quite dry on the surface but apparently not so dry below the surface, judging by the number of trees along its sides.

Note the side-canyon with its own color display in this next photo:

Those peaks ahead reminded me that I needed to keep moving or else I would not reach my Notch-goal.  But color retarded me many more times:

There were many stretches with not all that much color, don't let my photos give you the wrong impression:

Looking up gave one a feel for the size of this canyon, note the natural arch or bridge in this photo:

Soon after a stretch with no color except green (which is a wonderful color) there was this bright color-cluster, all by itself:

The trail kept surprising me with color, and then all at once I came to the Wilderness Boundary sign:

The trail ahead goes tot he Grotto, and the Notch.  But the trail to the right goes to an old fence and gate.

That meant the Pratt Cabin was just to the right (next page).
